The Beginning: Learning to Break the “Quick Fix” Cycle

Karina Nwoko, MS, RD, LDN

The best. That’s what we all feel we should strive to be in all aspects of our life. Unfortunately, because of this we often fall for “quick fixes”, particularly when it comes to diet and exercise. I see this all too frequently as I work with a range of clients from athletes to busy moms to students living away from home for the first time. They frequently fall for the promises of the latest trending supplement or the fad diet and hope it will give them improved endurance, weight loss, better sleep, more energy…. whatever their heart desires.

But then reality sets in. The desired results aren’t seen, and frustration ensues. They move on until they spy another potential “quick fix” and the cycle continues.
My mission as an RD is to break this cycle and help others establish a foundation of nutrition knowledge they can apply to their own life and goals. I strive to educate in a fun, honest, and approachable manner on the “why” and “how” of making lasting lifestyle changes. Turn on a TV. Glance at a magazine. Listen to chatter at a restaurant. No matter what you do, you’re likely constantly bombarded with some sort of nutrition related advice every day. Unfortunately, much of this information is flat out wrong. As a registered dietitian, I want to be a voice screaming over the distorted misinformation, guiding you to the truth behind the diet headlines and giving you the tools to separate nutrition facts from fiction.

I am excited to support Ben and his clients by providing informative, applicable nutrition information through his blog. Whether you are debating on trying a new supplement, frustrated with your weight, or simply learning how to cook healthier, I am here to help. I will teach you how sleep, exercise, diet, stress and mental health are all intertwined and steps you can do to be the best in all of these areas. It will take work and there will be no “quick fixes”, but you will find the hard work you put in will create changes that will last a lifestyle.
